Commercial Catering Equipment Technician – Level 3 Apprenticeship

Summary

An apprenticeship is a fantastic opportunity to gain the skills required for a lifelong career!

Course details

This Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard is designed to suit newcomers or those with some knowledge or experience in the industry.

It has also been developed by CEDA, a leading trade organisation in the Commercial Catering Industry. The apprenticeship is delivered between 27 – 30 months, with 20% ‘off the job’ training carried out in our Stockport training centre and 80% of ‘on the job’ through placement at the company.

This is delivered in block weeks, with apprentices attending the centre for a five day block every 6-8 weeks.

Learners will work towards ACS qualification in 4 appliances (or categories), which are:

  • CCCN1 – Core Commercial Catering
  • COMCAT1 – Solid/Open Top Ranges
  • COMCAT 3 – Deep Fat and Pressure Fryers
  • COMCAT 5 – Forced Draught Burning Appliances
  • CONGLP1PD – Changeover to LPG (Permanent Dwellings)

The apprenticeship is either partially or fully funded through the ESFA (Education and Skills Funding Agency). Apprentices aged under 21 will receive full funding, whereas those aged 21 and over will receive 95% funding.

Further to this, employers could also receive additional incentive payments through the ESFA, which amounts to £1,000 for an apprentice aged under 19, subject to meeting the eligibility criteria.

During the apprenticeship, monthly progress reports can be sent to keep employers fully informed and up to date with apprentice development. These will include details of core competencies, knowledge, skills and behaviours – which are further reinforced through a mentor while on placement.

An apprentice can be a cost effective way of growing your business and are open to anyone of any age.

Key Information:

  • Duration: 27 – 30 months, with 20% off job training as part of the course.
  • Delivered in block weeks, with apprentices attending college for approximately 5 days in a block every 6-8 weeks.
  • End point assessment in final 3 months – Learners  must have Functional skills at Level 2 by the End Point Assessment Gateway.  ECTA will support this where necessary, though if already in place (i.e. Learner already holds GCSE/Functional Skills qualifications at the appropriate level) this will not be required as part of Apprenticeship Standard.
  • On successful completion candidates are able to apply to join Gas Safe register.

Taking on an apprentice supports recruitment needs, reduces cost in both recruitment and wages, and allows the apprentice to be trained and developed in the manner which the company culture requires.
