Beyond successfully passing, most potential employers will insist you have at least four GCSE’s and hold a valid driving licence. You will be expected to demonstrate excellent communication skills and to have a positive, customer-focused attitude. When you’re qualified and working, you’ll need to be very organised and motivated.

Your basic role of as a Smart Meter Installer will be to safely remove existing energy meters and install and test smart meters in customers’ properties. You will also need to show the homeowner in how their smart meter works and how to use their portable display screen to monitor, understand and adjust their energy consumption. So you’ll need to use those excellent communication skills to explain the benefits and features of the smart meter.
